How many porta potties do I need for a wedding?
A wedding needs 1 unit per 50 guests for the first 4 hours. Add 1 unit per 100 guests when the reception runs longer than 4 hours, and 1 more per 100 guests when there is a bar. With dinner served, add 1 hand wash station per 4 toilets.
| Wedding | Base | Over 4 hours | Bar | Total toilets | Hand wash stations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 75 guests, 5 hours, bar | 2 | +1 | +1 | 4 | 1 |
| 100 guests, 4 hours, no bar | 2 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 1 |
| 150 guests, 6 hours, bar | 3 | +2 | +2 | 7 | 2 |
| 200 guests, 6 hours, bar | 4 | +2 | +2 | 8 | 2 |
Round each step up. This method is based on the event chart widely used in portable sanitation. Count a 2-stall restroom trailer as 2 toilets and a 4-stall trailer as 4. A deluxe unit with a built-in sink can cover part of the hand-washing need.
Many couples add 1 wheelchair-accessible unit for grandparents and guests with mobility needs. Run your own guest count through the wedding sizing calculator.

Deluxe flushing porta potty or restroom trailer?
A deluxe flushing porta potty starts at $245 for an event and needs no power or water. A 2-stall restroom trailer starts at $1,095 for a weekend but needs a 120V 20-amp outlet within 100 feet, a garden hose and a level spot about 20 by 8 feet.
| Deluxe flushing (PolyJohn Fleet) | Restroom trailer | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting price | $245 per unit, event | $1,095 (2-stall), $1,695 (4-stall), weekend |
| Inside | Flush toilet, built-in sink with soap and paper towels, lock, shelf | Flushing toilets, vanity sinks with running water, mirrors, lights, fan/heat |
| Power | None | 120V 20-amp outlet within 100 ft |
| Water | Fresh flush water in the unit | Garden hose or onboard tank fill |
| Space | 47 in wide x 47 in long | Level spot about 20 ft x 8 ft with driveway or road access |

Pick deluxe units when the venue is a field with no outlet, or when the budget is tight. Pick a restroom trailer for formal weddings, cold evenings and long receptions. The porta potty vs restroom trailer guide compares both in detail.
Where should wedding restrooms go?
Put wedding restrooms close enough to the reception for a short walk, but downwind of the dinner tent and dance floor. Each unit needs firm, level ground within about 15 feet of where the truck can park, and the path needs 48 inches clear for a standard-width unit.
- Downwind: check which way the evening breeze usually blows across the property and set units on the far side.
- Out of photos: face doors away from the ceremony aisle and the main photo backdrop.
- On a path: mowed grass, gravel or a walkway is easier in dress shoes than a rough field.
- Hand wash nearby: place the station beside the toilets, not by the buffet.
Mark each spot with a flag or text dispatch a photo with arrows. Tell dispatch about soft lawns, low wires and narrow gates before delivery day.
When does the wedding porta potty rental arrive?
Wedding porta potty rental units arrive the day before the wedding, so a Saturday wedding gets delivery Friday and pickup Monday at no extra charge. Delivery runs 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the driver calls or texts about 30 minutes ahead. Nobody needs to meet the truck.
Day-before delivery means the units are in place before the florist and caterer arrive. Units come cleaned and stocked with toilet paper, soap, towels and sanitizer as the model allows.
May through October weekends book up. Reserve 1–2 weeks ahead at minimum, and earlier for a restroom trailer. Cancellation is free until 3 p.m. the business day before delivery.
What should barn and farm weddings plan for?
Barn and farm venues around Dayton often have one indoor bathroom or none, so restroom units do all the work for 100 or more guests. Plan truck access first: a delivery truck needs to park within about 15 feet of each unit, and a restroom trailer needs a drivable lane.
Fields that look firm in August can turn soft after a June rain. Tell dispatch if the lane is gravel, grass or mud, and pick a backup spot on higher ground.
Many barns have power for lights but not a free 20-amp circuit near the parking area. Ask the venue owner which outlet can run a trailer for the whole evening. If no outlet works, deluxe flushing units need no hookups at all.
Remote venues past 25 miles from Dayton add a zone fee: $40 in Zone 2 and $95 in Zone 3.
How will guests find the restrooms after dark?
Porta potties have translucent roofs that light the inside by day, but no electric lights after sunset. Receptions that run past 9 p.m. in summer need battery lanterns or string lights along the path. Restroom trailers have their own interior lights and need only the 120V outlet.

Lighting is up to the couple or venue for porta potties. Battery puck lights or a motion light inside each unit are simple fixes. Keep cords away from doors and the truck path.
What does a wedding restroom setup cost?
A 100-guest, 4-hour wedding with 2 deluxe flushing units costs from $490 in Zone 1. The same wedding with 2 standard units and 1 hand wash station starts at $445. A 2-stall restroom trailer for a weekend starts at $1,095, with Zone 1 delivery included.
| Setup | Starting price (Zone 1, before tax) |
|---|---|
| 2 standard + 1 hand wash station (100 guests, 4 hours) | $445 |
| 2 deluxe flushing with sinks (100 guests, 4 hours) | $490 |
| 3 deluxe + 1 wheelchair-accessible (75 guests, 5 hours, bar) | $970 |
| 2-stall restroom trailer, weekend | $1,095 |
| 4-stall trailer + 3 deluxe (150 guests, 6 hours, bar) | $2,430 |
Every quote lists the units, delivery and pickup, any service and tax. A $45 mid-event service visit is available for long receptions. See the full rental cost guide for zone fees.
Common questions
Do you provide a restroom attendant for the wedding?
Restroom attendants are not part of our service. The units arrive cleaned and stocked. Ask a wedding coordinator or family member to check paper and soap once during the reception. For long receptions, book a $45 mid-event service visit.
Can the units be delivered the morning of the wedding?
Delivery runs 7 a.m.–5 p.m. with no exact arrival time, so the day before is the safe choice for a wedding. A Saturday wedding gets Friday delivery and Monday pickup at no extra charge.
Is a porta potty enough for a nice wedding, or do I need a trailer?
Deluxe flushing units with built-in sinks suit most barn and backyard weddings and start at $245 each. A restroom trailer adds mirrors, running water and lights from $1,095, but needs a 120V 20-amp outlet and a hose.
Will the porta potties smell near the reception?
Units arrive pumped and cleaned with fresh deodorizer in the tank. Placing them downwind of the dinner tent, with doors facing away from guests, keeps odor out of the reception. Hot July afternoons are when placement matters most.
Do we need a wheelchair-accessible unit at a private wedding?
Private weddings are a choice, but 1 wheelchair-accessible unit helps grandparents, guests with walkers and parents with toddlers. The PolyJohn Comfort XL has a 32-inch door, no step and handrails, from $235 for an event.
How far ahead should we book wedding restrooms?
Book at least 1–2 weeks ahead for May–October weekends, and sooner for a restroom trailer. Booking early also gives time to check outlets, gate widths and truck access at the venue.
Do deluxe flushing units need water or power hookups?
Deluxe flushing units need no hookups. The PolyJohn Fleet carries its own fresh flush water and a 60-gallon holding tank, and the built-in sink has soap and paper towels. Only restroom trailers need power and a hose.
