What is a standard porta potty, and what comes inside?
A standard porta potty is a single-user, non-flushing toilet with a 60-gallon holding tank. Our standard porta potty is the PolyJohn PJN3. Each one comes with a toilet seat, a urinal, a hand sanitizer dispenser, two toilet paper rolls, a vent pipe and a latch that shows occupied.
The translucent roof lets in daylight, so nobody needs a flashlight during the day. The anti-slip floor helps on muddy job sites. The vent pipe pulls odor up and out of the unit.
- Toilet seat over a 60-gallon tank with blue deodorizer
- Urinal mounted on the wall
- Hand sanitizer dispenser (there is no sink)
- Two tissue holders, stocked at delivery and each service
- Occupancy latch and a free padlock hasp on request
The standard unit does not flush and has no running water. Guests who want to wash with soap need a hand wash station next to it, or a flushing unit with a built-in sink.

Will a standard porta potty fit through my gate?
A standard porta potty is 43.5 inches wide, so the gate or path needs at least 48 inches of clear width. Most single 36-inch backyard gates are too narrow. A 48-inch or double gate works, and the crew needs the unit within about 15 feet of the truck or a dolly path.
Measure the narrowest point between the truck and the spot. Posts, latches and downspouts count. The unit is moved upright, so it cannot be laid flat to squeeze through.
- 48 in or wider: the standard unit fits.
- Less than 48 in: place the unit in the driveway or side yard instead.
- Soft lawn or steep slope: tell dispatch; a mild slope is fine, a steep one is not.
Nobody needs to be home for delivery. Mark the spot with a cone, flag or chalk X, or text a photo. Our porta potty placement guide covers low wires, gate codes and HOA rules.

When is a standard unit the right pick, and when is it the wrong one?
A standard porta potty is the right pick for job sites, home remodels, farm work and casual parties under about 50 guests per unit. A standard unit is the wrong pick when guests expect a flush and a sink, when a wheelchair user attends, or when food is served with no wash station.
Good fit
- Construction crews on a 28-day cycle with weekly service (see construction porta potty rental)
- Kitchen or bathroom remodels, or a failed septic system at home
- Graduation parties, cookouts and church picnics
- Long rentals where low cost matters most
Wrong choice
- Weddings and showers: guests in dress clothes want a sink and a flush. Pick the deluxe unit or a restroom trailer.
- Guests who use a wheelchair or walker: the standard door and floor are too tight. Add a wheelchair-accessible unit.
- Food served: sanitizer alone is not handwashing. Add a wash station.
- Narrow gate under 48 in: the unit will not fit through.
Standard vs. deluxe flushing porta potty: what changes?
The deluxe flushing porta potty adds a flush and a built-in sink with soap and paper towels for $80 more on an event rental. Both units have a 60-gallon tank and stand 91 inches tall. The deluxe unit is 3.5 inches wider, so it needs a wider path.
| Standard (PJN3) | Deluxe flushing (Fleet) | |
|---|---|---|
| Event rental | From $165 | From $245 |
| 28-day rental | From $175 + $75 delivery | From $265 + delivery |
| Flush | No | Yes, refilled each service |
| Hand washing | Sanitizer only | Sink with soap and paper towels |
| Urinal | Yes | No |
| Width | 43.5 in | 47 in |
| Best for | Job sites, remodels, casual parties | Weddings, showers, older guests |
A standard unit plus a hand wash station costs $280 for an event ($165 + $115). The deluxe unit costs $245 and keeps the sink inside. For one or two units, the deluxe is often the cheaper way to give guests soap and water.

How much is a standard porta potty rental in Dayton?
A standard porta potty rental in Dayton starts at $165 for an event weekend of 1 to 3 days, with Zone 1 delivery and pickup included. A one-week rental starts at $195 with 1 service. Job sites and homes start at $175 per 28-day cycle plus a one-time $75 delivery and pickup.
| Plan | Starting price | What is included |
|---|---|---|
| Event / weekend (1-3 days) | $165 | Delivery and pickup in Zone 1, cleaned and stocked unit |
| One week | $195 | Flat rate for the week, 1 service |
| 28-day job site or home | $175 per cycle + $75 once | Weekly pump, clean and restock; delivery and pickup |
Zone 2 adds $40 and Zone 3 adds $95. Same-day delivery adds a $50 rush fee as its own line. An extra service visit is $45. Tax is listed separately, and tax-exempt groups can send a certificate.
The 28-day cycle renews until you call or text for pickup. Billing stops on the day you ask for pickup. The porta potty rental cost guide walks through full sample quotes.
How often is a standard unit serviced?
A standard porta potty on a 28-day rental gets serviced once a week, 4 times per cycle. Each service pumps the 60-gallon tank, scrubs the inside, adds fresh blue deodorizer and restocks toilet paper and sanitizer. You get a service slip or text after each visit.
One weekly service handles about 10 workers on a 40-hour week. Busier units need a second weekly visit at $45. Event units arrive clean and are not serviced mid-event unless you book a visit.
From November through March we add non-toxic antifreeze at every service at no extra charge. If your gate is locked on service day, text dispatch the code or move the visit by text.
Common questions
Does the standard one have hand sanitizer or a washing station?
Every standard porta potty has a hand sanitizer dispenser inside. There is no sink. If food is served or guests want soap and water, add a hand wash station from $115 with a toilet.
How many people can use one standard porta potty?
One standard unit covers about 50 guests at an event up to 4 hours. On a job site, one unit with weekly service handles about 10 workers on a 40-hour week. Our porta potty calculator adjusts for longer events and alcohol.
Will a standard porta potty smell?
A clean standard unit has little odor. The vent pipe pulls air up and out, and blue deodorizer goes in the tank. Placing the unit in shade and booking weekly service on long rentals keeps odor low, even in Dayton's humid summers.
Does it need to be connected to water or power?
A standard porta potty needs no water, sewer or power hookup. The unit is ready to use the moment the driver sets it down. Only firm, level ground is needed.
Does a lock cost extra?
A padlock hasp is free on request for job sites and public spots. We leave the key or combination wherever you ask, such as taped under the unit or in a lockbox.
If I only need it three days for a job, do I pay a full month?
A 3-day job can use the event rate from $165 or the one-week rate from $195. The 28-day plan from $175 plus $75 delivery makes sense when the job might run longer, since weekly service is included.
Can you put it on my driveway?
A driveway is a good spot for a standard unit. It is firm, level and close to the truck. Leave about 4 feet of width and keep it clear of where cars back out.
